Team India batter Rajat Patidar made his Test debut at the age of 30 in the second Test against England on Friday, February 2 at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam/ He expressed that it is common for players to wait for this long to get into the national team.

Former India pacer Zaheer Khan handed Rajat Patidar the debut Test cap.  He had a good partnership of 70-runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal for the fourth wicket. Patidar was dismissed in an unfortunate manner, scoring 32 runs for India, with three boundaries in the innings. Speaking about his debut at the age of 30, Rajat Patidar said to the press,

“Waiting for so long is very common in Indian cricket because there are a lot of players. I was concentrating on the things that were in my control. At the age of 30, I came here, and it feels good.”

“It was a dream come true moment for me. Representing the country is a dream for every player. It was the happiest moment for me. There was no pressure on me because I have played a lot of games in domestic cricket on this track,” he added.

Hundreds against England lions were crucial: Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar has a brilliant first-class record with 4000 runs at an average of 45.67, including 12 centuries. He slammed two centuries against the England Lions last month. The right-handed batter expressed that those knocks were crucial for him coming into the test series. He said,

“Coming into such a series, where there are a lot of star players in both teams, it gives you confidence when you prepare well ahead of the series. The two hundreds I made against England Lions, that was very crucial for me.”

India managed 336 runs at the end of the first day’s play in Vishakhapatnam. Yashasvi Jaiswal slammed 179 runs, off 257 deliveries with seventeen boundaries and five sixes. He will resume the Indian innings on the second day along with Ravichandran Ashwin.
