IND vs ENG: [WATCH] England Wicket-Keeper’s Hilarious Stump Collision In First Test Goes Viral

During the first Test match against India, England’s wicket-keeper, Ben Foakes, found himself at the center of a comical mishap on Day 1. In the third over of India’s innings, a throw from Ben Duckett went astray as Rohit Sharma completed a run. While attempting to gather the wayward throw, Foakes collided directly with the stumps, sending all three of them tumbling. The incident left his teammates amused on the field, and the video quickly gained viral traction on social media.

England’s captain, Ben Stokes, played a pivotal role with a resilient 70 in an aggressive innings that saw the tourists post 246 runs on the opening day of the series in Hyderabad. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin claimed three wickets each after England opted to bat. The team faced consistent setbacks until Stokes took charge, forging crucial partnerships with debutant Tom Hartley and Mark Wood.

Stokes reached his half-century with a six off Jadeja and contributed six fours and three sixes in his 88-ball innings. The attacking style displayed by England’s openers, Ben Duckett and Zak Crawley, in the initial stand of 55 runs, adhered to the “Bazball” approach. Coined by coach Brendon McCullum and Stokes, “Bazball” emphasizes an aggressive playing style, evident in their brisk start.

However, spin introduced by India disrupted England’s momentum, with Jadeja starting with a maiden over. Duckett, continuing the aggressive charge, hit two successive boundaries off Jadeja but fell lbw in the next over to Ashwin, who dismantled the promising opening stand. Crawley’s dismissal followed, providing Ashwin with his second wicket as Siraj made a low catch at mid-off.

Subsequent partnerships between Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root, as well as Bairstow and Root individually, added runs for England. Axar Patel, the left-arm spinner, claimed Bairstow’s wicket after lunch, energizing the home crowd. Jadeja later dismissed Root, who mistimed a sweep, leading to a catch at short fine-leg. England’s strategic inclusion of three specialist spinners, along with Root’s bowling contribution, further characterized the dynamics of the match as it unfolded on the eventful first day.
