IND vs ENG: [WATCH] Rohit Sharma’s Frustration At Cameraman Draws Gavaskar’s Criticism

India’s promising start in the cricket session was marred by Joe Root and Ben Foakes’ resilient partnership, frustrating the home team’s hopes of wrapping up England’s innings swiftly. Despite having England struggling at 112/5, Root and Foakes defied the Indian bowlers with a century stand, marking England’s first wicketless session between lunch and tea. Meanwhile, India’s frustration mounted as they squandered all three of their review opportunities within 60 overs.

Ravindra Jadeja’s attempt to dismiss Foakes was denied by the umpire, prompting India to exhaust their final review after earlier unsuccessful appeals against Root. Despite a prolonged discussion between Rohit Sharma and the players, the decision stood, with ball tracking indicating the ball pitching in line but veering away from the stumps.

Before the final review, Rohit Sharma’s displeasure with the big screen focusing on him rather than the DRS process was evident, reminiscent of a similar incident during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia. Ironically, as Rohit gestured towards the screen, the ball tracker appeared, adding to the dramatic turn of events.

Sunil Gavaskar said: “All reviews are lost now. Bowlers do get excited; I can understand. They want a wicket, but they (others) have got to realise where it was that the ball hit. You want to be sure at least that if it doesn’t go your way, they should get the benefit of the umpire’s call. Then it’s fine. You don’t lose the review; here you’ve lost the review.”

Following Foakes’ survival, cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar criticized the decision, acknowledging it as a poor referral forced upon Rohit Sharma. Former England opener Nick Knight concurred with Gavaskar’s assessment during the commentary, highlighting the mounting frustration for the Indian team.

Knight said: “It was an emotional review from Jadeja who was pleading with Rohit to go upstairs. But I am with you; this did not look convincing. This is significant because they now have no reviews and England have three”

Despite Mohammed Siraj’s breakthroughs dismissing Foakes and Tom Hartley, Joe Root’s resilient innings posed a challenge, especially with India having exhausted all their reviews. The partnership between Root and Foakes, coupled with India’s dwindling review options, added to the mounting pressure on the home team.
