IND vs ENG: “We’re Not Going To Change Our Approach” – Zak Crawley Ahead Of The Test Series

England batter Zak Crawley asserted that the team will continue with their ‘Bazball’ approach in the upcoming Test series against India. The five-match series kicks off on Thursday, January 25 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.

Zak Crawley is likely to open the innings alongside Ben Duckett for the series opener. He last toured India in 2021 but did not have a great tour. He will be keen to make an impact in the upcoming series. Speaking before the series, Zak Crawley expressed that they will continue with their ‘Bazball’ approach, but added that they have to assess the conditions and then adapt their gameplan.

“We’re not going to change our approach. It has to be judged at the time. We talk about being fully present. If you’re not present, you build up all these ideas about what it’s going to be like, what the pitches will be, but we could turn up and the first Test is on a belter of a pitch. We could turn up and it’s a raging turner, so you have to adapt your gameplan and play the situation. You can’t decide that until you’re out there and you’re reading the situation,” Crawley told BBC.

Baz always seems to find the right moment to speak: Zak Crawley

England opener Zak Crawley also revealed that he has been drawing inspiration from snooker legend Ronnie O’ Suvillian. He further praised the England Test team’s head coach Brendon McCullum, and highlighted his optimistic approach, which has proved to be beneficial for the England team. Zak Crawley said,

“I love the way Ronnie plays and talks about sport. To him, the way he plays is more important than the result. That’s such a powerful mindset. It’s a hard one to get into, but whenever you get into that mindset, you find yourself playing better.”

“Baz is big on that. He talks about it all the time, that the way we play is more important in the long run, and that will bring results. Baz always seem to find the right moment to speak. He certainly has an aura about him. He’s never negative. He’s an optimist. That’s what we need sometimes in English sports. As a nation, we’re quite pessimistic at times,” he added.
