Veteran England James Anderson opened up on his retirement plans amidst the five-match test series against India. He expressed that he would like to bow out on a nice note. He is currently playing in the third Test against India at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.
James Anderson has played 185 Test matches for England, achieving several milestones in his career. He has taken 695 wickets, the most wickets by a pacer in the longest format of the game. He is just third on the list of most wickets in Test cricket behind spinner Shane Warne (708) and Mutiah Muralidaran (800). Talking about his retirement plans, James Anderson said to the Telegraph, as quoted by talkSPORT,
“I would like to be able to go out on a nice note. Don’t want to drag it out and people are thinking: ‘Can you just do one.’ Morgs [Morgan] last year woke up and just knew it was time to call it a day. I am just hoping that is the case.”

James Anderson feels privileged to be in a position to decide on his retirement from International cricket. He expressed that some bowlers don’t get this opportunity due to injuries or selection. Speaking to the Telegraph, the veteran England pacer said,
“I feel privileged to have got in a position where I can make a decision because, as a bowler, it is usually taken out of your hands with injury or selection. It will be nice to go out on my own terms, but when that will be, you just have to wait and see.”
James Anderson is edging closer to the 1000-wicket mark in International cricket. He will join the exclusive club featuring only Shane Warne (1001) and Muthiah Muralidaran (1347). He will become the first pacer to achieve this feat in International cricket. So far, the veteran England bowler has taken 982 wickets in 397 matches, including 34 five-wicket hauls and three ten-wicket hauls.
