IND vs ENG: Yashasvi Jaiswal’s Impactful Innings vs England Elevates Him To Elite Club With Gavaskar, Kohli, Dravid

India’s young batting sensation, Yashasvi Jaiswal, continues to impress in Test cricket, showcasing his prowess with a remarkable six during the first innings of the fourth Test against England. This feat propels him past several cricketing legends, including Yuvraj Singh, Mohammed Azharuddin, and Rahul Dravid, in terms of sixes hit in Test matches.

Jaiswal’s first-innings contribution of 73 runs off 117 balls, embellished with eight fours and a six, underscores his impact on the game. Notably, his runs were amassed at a striking rate exceeding 62. With this, Jaiswal’s tally of sixes climbs to 26, putting him on par with the renowned Indian batsman, Virat Kohli. Surpassing the likes of KL Rahul, Yuvraj Singh, and Rahul Dravid, Jaiswal’s six-hitting prowess stands out in the Indian cricketing landscape.

Virender Sehwag holds the record for the most sixes by an Indian player in Test cricket, with an impressive tally of 90. Jaiswal’s recent performance also sees him eclipse Sehwag’s record for the most Test sixes by an Indian batter in a calendar year, registering 23 sixes in just five matches in 2024.

In the broader context of Test cricket, Jaiswal’s achievements align him with the elite club of six-hitters, where England’s Ben Stokes leads the pack with 128 sixes, followed by Brendon McCullum and Adam Gilchrist, both surpassing the 100-six mark.

Amidst the ongoing series against England, Jaiswal’s exceptional form is evident, amassing 618 runs across seven innings in four matches, boasting an average of 103 and a striking rate exceeding 78. His impressive performance includes two double centuries and two fifties, with a top score of 214.

In the fourth Test, England initially scored 353 runs in their first innings, led by Joe Root’s resilient unbeaten century. Despite early breakthroughs by the Indian bowlers, Root’s steadfast innings, supported by contributions from Ben Foakes and Ollie Robinson, propelled England’s total. Ravindra Jadeja and debutant Akash Deep shone with the ball for India, with Mohammed Siraj also making significant contributions.

At the end of day two, India found themselves at 219/7, with Jaiswal’s notable innings of 73 and valuable partnerships with Dhruv Jurel and Kuldeep Yadav aiding their recovery. Jaiswal’s consistency sees him join the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, and Rahul Dravid in surpassing the 600-run mark in a Test series, underlining his growing stature in Indian cricket. As the series progresses, Jaiswal’s performances remain pivotal for India’s prospects against England.
