Veteran Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik said that Ravichandran Ashwin and Kapil Dev are names that should be taken in the same breadth given their contribution for Team India. Ashwin especially has grown leaps and bounds as an all-rounder. Karthik’s statement comes after Ashwin scored 38 & 32 in the two innings and added key partnerships in the process.

Speaking on the show ‘Cricbuzz Chatter’, Karthik opined that Ashwin and legendary Kapil Dev should be spoken of in the same breath when it comes to Indian cricket. The Indian wicketkeeper batter and former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper opined that Ashwin and Kapil are definitely two of the best all-rounders Team India has ever had for a long period of time.

“Obvioulsy, I don’t think I am in a place to judge both of them, but I must admit that they should be spoken of in the same breath when it comes to Indian cricket because both of them have been match-winners, have been exemplary, and have been definitely the two best all-rounders to have come out of this soil for a long, long time,” Karthik explained.

R Ashwin 413 Wickets From 80 Test Matches

Ashwin with 413 wickets to his name is also India’s third-highest wicket-taker and just fie short of Harbhajan Singh’s tally of 417 wickets.

“You have to put him there (among India’s best all-rounders) with the number of Man of the Series he has won, the accolades he has got obviously.Getting 417 wickets in 80 Tests is an unbelievable record to have and the fact that he’s contributed and scored five hundreds, much more than a lot of the batters who play for a longer period of time in Test matches. There are people who have played 30-35 Tests, and still haven’t managed five hundreds,” Karthik added.

R Ashwin also has five Test centuries to his name along with 11 fifties in the format.
