India beat New Zealand by 372 runs on day four of the test match to win the match and the series 1-0. This is India’s highest win against any opposition in terms of runs in Test cricket. The Kiwis started the day on 140/5 eventually folded out for 167 adding just 27 runs in the morning and losing five wickets in the process in just 45 minutes. India gave a target of 540 to win for the Kiwis.
Jayant Yadav took four wickets on the fourth day with Ravichandran Ashwin picking up the final wicket and ending with four in the innings and eight in the match. The other bowlers also played their part in the game as all the bowlers took help from the Mumbai pitch.
For the Kiwis, it was a difficult Test series coming on the back of a T20I series defeat. They lost their last five wickets inside the first hour of the fourth day’s play. They dearly lost their skipper Kane Williamson. Also lack of runs from Tom Latham and Ross Taylor did not help their cause.
The Twitterverse meanwhile, celebrated an Indian victory and the comeback of skipper Virat Kohli. His bowling and fielding changes were very visible and resulted in finally a win for the Indian team.

India ko India main harana namumkin Hai! If World Champion and No.1 side can lose so comprehensively against India which was missing almost half of its regular players, you can imagine the strength of Test side.Congratulations 👏 to the players. #INDvNZ #NZvIND #CricketTwitter

14th consecutive Test series win at home. Enviable record. India is the modern day ‘final frontier’ for the teams across the world.
A gentle reminder that India were missing 6 players from the first playing XI for the first Test at Kanpur and 5 in Mumbai. #IndvNZ— Aakash Chopra (@cricketaakash) December 6, 2021
Thumping win for India, New Zealand folding up in double quick time this morning. Draw was improbable considering time remaining in the match and pitch helping Indian spinners. Even so one expected a more determined performance from the no.1 ranked side

Resounding win for India in their own backyard, comprehensively outclassed New Zealand on a track with turn and bounce. Complete all-round effort with Mayank and Ashwin leading the way, one does feel for history-maker Ajaz. #INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/FFeRu6ZPUC

Fantastic win for India. New Zealand played fabulously to save the first test match but India were just too good in Mumbai. Feel happy for Jayant Yadav who has waited for long for a comeback and Mayank Agarwal showed his class where most other batsmen struggled . #INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/ZKpqZgofHp

Flash from @Wriddhipops and brilliant from @ashwinravi99 Series win to India. Jayant was superb this morning and it finished earlier than hoped. Beating India in India is like beating Novak in a 5 setter. Brilliant from @imVkohli and his team. @BCCI

The series thus ends 1-0 in India’s favour with the side winning the second Test comprehensively after the Kiwis denied them a win in the first Test.
Shreyas Iyer and Jayant Yadav spoke about India’s comprehensive win, playing under Rahul Dravid and much more in the game.
Shreyas Iyer- “It was a memorable series, a great first match to remember for me (in Kanpur). I’m really proud of the way I did (bat). I’m not really thinking about it (about cementing a permanent place in the team), there are so many players who are in really good form, I hope to be more consistent going ahead. He (Rahul Dravid) has given me a lot of confidence, having started off with India A, we have gelled well, he has chipped in with ideas really happy working with me – have had great brainstorming sessions both on and off the field. Looking forward to having a great day (his birthday today).”
Jayant Yadav: “Yeah, definitely (nice pitch to bowl on). In the morning with Wankhede and pitch conditions.. there was moisture and it helped, you could see the difference and we just had to bowl in the right areas. Wankhede and Mumbai have special memories (for me), like you said I scored a hundred here, missed out on a 5-fer but helped the team’s cause. Very useful to feed off his (Ashwin) mind and he thinks about the game in a different way. We should always pick on the brain and then adapt it in our game.”
