IND vs SA: “It Was Tough To Read The Wicket” – Rinku Singh Opens Up On His Blazing Fifty In Second T20I

Team India youngster Rinku Singh opened up on his blazing knock against South Africa in the second T20I on Tuesday, December 13 at St George’s Park in Gqeberha. He slammed his maiden International fifty in the match. However, India lost the game by five wickets on D/Ls.

Rinku Singh walked out to bat at number five, when India was in a tough spot having lost three wickets for 55 runs. He got together with skipper Suryakumar Yadav to steady the ship. They scored 70 runs for the fourth-wicket stand before Suryakumar Yadav got dismissed for 56 runs. Rinku continued the onslaught and stayed unbeaten on 68 runs from 39 deliveries. He slammed nine boundaries and two sixes in the innings. Team India managed 180 runs in 19.3 overs before rain interrupted play.

“When I went out to bat, we were three down. While playing with Surya bhai (Suryakumar Yadav), he was telling me to keep playing the way I am. I took some time initially as it was tough to read the wicket. After I spent some time at the crease after I got set, I started hitting,” said Rinku Singh in a video shared by the BCCI.

The youngster further spoke about his partnership with Suryakumar Yadav, “He told me to keep playing the way you are and believe in yourself. And as I said initially I wasn’t able to bat well. He told me to not worry.”

Rinku Singh apologises for glass-breaking six

Rinku Singh broke the glass of the media box during the nineteenth over of the innings. He slammed consecutive sixes in the over. Speaking about the glass-breaking six, Rinku Singh expressed that he was unaware of the incident. In the video shared by the BCCI, the Indian youngster said,

“When I hit that six, I wasn’t aware that it broke the glass. I only got to know after you told me. For breaking the glass, I am sorry (chuckles).”

As rain interrupted play, South Africa had a revised target of 152 in 15 overs. They chased it down with five wickets in hand, with Reeze Hendricks slamming 49 runs from 27 deliveries. Aiden Markram also played a brilliant knock of 30 runs from 17 deliveries. South Africa has a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
