India A Captain Opens Up On Test Snub For West Indies Tour

Among the numerous players who were not chosen for the West Indies tour, the most talked about are Sarfaraz Ahmed from Mumbai and Abhimanyu Easwaran from Bengal.

The recent team selection has faced criticism from fans and ex-cricketers who believe that consistent domestic performers were unfairly left out.

Sarfaraz Ahmed has been in exceptional form, amassing 2,566 runs in the last three seasons of the Ranji Trophy, boasting an impressive average of 106.

On the other hand, Abhimanyu Easwaran, captain of the India A squad, has nearly 90 first-class matches under his belt.

In the Ranji Trophy alone, Easwaran has scored 2,890 runs at an average of 62.79 since the 2017/18 season.

However, the selectors opted for Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad instead, despite their lower batting averages in the Ranji Trophy.

Gaikwad holds an average of 42.92, while Jaiswal averages 49.34. Jaiswal had an outstanding first-class season last year, accumulating 1,169 runs in nine games, including five centuries.

Both Jaiswal and Gaikwad impressed in the recent IPL, which likely contributed to their selection in the Test squad.

In an interview with Sportskeeda, Abhimanyu Easwaran expressed his slight disappointment at not making the cut but remains confident that he will receive the recognition he deserves in the near future.

Easwaran emphasized his unwavering passion and determination to never give up on his dream of representing the country in cricket.

He acknowledged the disappointment but chose to focus on his game and prepare for upcoming tournaments, aiming to be ready when the opportunity to play for the national team arises.

Although Easwaran was part of the Indian squad as a backup opener for the tours of England and Bangladesh in 2022, he has not been included in the squad since then.

A decision has been met with criticism from fans and experts who believe that deserving players from the domestic circuit should have been given an opportunity.
