The All India Selection Committee has announced Test and T20I squads for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. Rohit Sharma has been appointed as the Test captain after Virat Kohli relinquished his duties from the red-ball format after South Africa series.

Senior batters Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara have been dropped from the Test squad for the home series against Sri Lanka. Senior wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha and pacer Ishant Sharma has also been left out of the squad.

Uncapped left-arm spinner Saurabh Kumar makes it to squad with Axar Patel continuing to recover whereas KS Bharat has taken over Saha’s spot as the backup keeper. Opener Priyank Panchal, who was a part of the touring party in South Africa recently, retains his spot. Shubman Gill and Ravindra Jadeja have also returned to the Test side after recovering from injuries.

On the other hand, Sanju Samson has found a spot in the T20I squad for the three-match series, after KL Rahul failed to recover in time.

Sri Lanka will first play the T20I series comprising three matches followed by a two-match Test series, which will be a part of the ICC World Test Championship, 2021-23. Lucknow will now host the first T20I on February 24th while the next two will be played in Dharamsala on 26 and 27.

The first Test will now be held in Mohali from March 4th to 8th and the second Test will be played from March 12th to 16th in Bengaluru.

T20I Squad:  Rohit Sharma (C), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan (wk), Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Deepak Chahar, Harshal Patel, Mohammed Siraj, Sanju Samson (wk), Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Avesh Khan.

Test Squad: Rohit Sharma (C), Mayank Agarwal, Priyank Panchal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hanuma Vihari, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, KS Bharat, Ravichandran Ashwin (subject to fitness), Ravindra Jadeja, Jayant Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah (VC), Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Saurabh Kumar
