India beat Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in Women’s T20 Asia Cup

After their shock loss to Bangladesh yesterday, the Indian women’s team returned back to winning ways by beating Sri Lanka in their 4th match played at Royal Selangor Club, Kuala Lumpur of the Women’s Asia Cup T20 tournament just finished a few moments ago. After winning the toss, Sri Lankan batters could not score many runs. While chasing, the Indian women’s struggled but finally won the match.

Sri Lanka captain Siriwardene won the toss and elected to bat first. The Indian bowlers did not give easy runs to the Sri Lankan batters. Ekta Bisht got the early wicket of Hansika for 2 runs. At the end of 6 overs, Sri Lankan women scored just 23 runs for 1.

After the power play overs, the Indian bowlers continued to impress with their line and lengths not allowing Sri Lanka batters to score runs easily, picking wickets at regular intervals. BA Mendis and Perera added 38 runs for the 2nd wicket. After Mendis wicket, Sri Lanka could not score many runs and lost too many wickets. Perera was the top scorer for Sri Lanka with 46 runs. BAY Mendis scored 26. Sri Lanka posted 107 for 7 in 20 overs.

Ekta Bisht was the top wicket taker with 2 wickets while Goswami, Anuja Patil and Poonam Yadav picked up 1 wicket each.

Chasing 108, the Indian openers Mithali Raj and Smriti Mandhana started slowly adding 21 runs for the first wicket in 5.2 overs. Smriti Mandhana was dismissed 12. At the end of 6 overs, India were 25 for 1.

Mithali Raj and Harmanpreet Kaur steadied the innings with 34 runs stand for the 2nd wicket. Raj was dismissed for 23. Indian captain Kaur contributed an important  24 off 25 balls. Veda Krishna Murthy and Anuja Patil added unbeaten 40 runs for the 4th wicket. Indian women won the match by 7 wickets with 7 balls to spare.

For Sri Lanka, Prabodhani, Ranasinghe and de Silva picked 1 wicket each.

IND W 110 for 3 in 18.5 overs ( Veda Krishna Murthy 29*, Harmanpreet Kaur 24, Ranasinghe 1/15) beat

Sri Lanka W 107 for 7 in 20 overs ( Perera 46*, Mendis 27, Ekta Bisht 2/20) by 7 wickets.

Indian women team will play their last league match of the tournament against Pakistan on 9th June.
