India secured a thrilling 15-run victory over England in the fourth T20I, sealing the series with a resilient performance. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav praised his team’s fighting spirit, particularly lauding Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube for rebuilding the innings after an early setback. India stumbled to 12/3 within two overs, but Pandya and Dube steadied the ship, guiding the team to a competitive 181/9. “Three wickets in one over was tough, but the way Hardik and Dube handled the situation was commendable,” said Suryakumar.
Dube’s innings, however, ended abruptly when he was struck on the helmet in the final over, leading to his substitution under concussion protocols. This opened the door for Harshit Rana, who made an immediate impact with the ball.
Harshit Rana’s Dream Debut
Suryakumar expressed confidence in India’s ability to control the game post-powerplay, especially with key breakthroughs. Harshit Rana, coming in as a concussion substitute, delivered a match-winning spell, picking up three wickets. “I knew we could control the game after the powerplay. Post drinks, Harshit came in as the third seamer and delivered,” Suryakumar remarked.
Rana, reflecting on his debut, shared his excitement about the opportunity. “It’s still a dream debut for me. When I was informed about being the concussion substitute, I just focused on executing my skills. I have been preparing for this moment for a long time,” he said. Drawing from his IPL experience with KKR, he remained composed during the death overs, helping India defend their total successfully.
England’s Missed Opportunity
England skipper Jos Buttler acknowledged his team’s missed chances despite their strong start. “We began brilliantly, taking early wickets, but we failed to capitalize on it. We should have won the game from that position,” Buttler admitted.
A dropped catch of Dube early in his innings proved costly, as he went on to play a crucial knock. “We dropped him first ball, and he made us pay with a really good innings. With the bat, we were in a great position but lost key wickets at crucial moments,” Buttler added.
India’s victory not only sealed the series but also showcased the depth of their squad, with young talents like Harshit Rana stepping up when it mattered most.
