In a closed-door intra-squad match ahead of the much-anticipated Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy, the Indian team got valuable game time at Beckenham. While fans couldn’t witness the match live, the BCCI shared a Day 1 highlights video on its official website, capturing glimpses of high-intensity action.

Indian skipper Shubman Gill was seen motivating his teammates with the words, “Let’s keep our intensity high.” The video also showed Ravindra Jadeja smashing a six off Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur celebrating a wicket, and Akash Deep delivering a solid spell with the ball.

On the field, Shubman Gill and KL Rahul both struck confident half-centuries, providing a strong foundation for the Indian senior side. The BCCI’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle shared pictures and updates, highlighting Rahul and Gill’s contributions with the bat and Shardul Thakur’s success with the ball. Notably, Rahul continues his fine form after scoring 116 and 51 in the second unofficial Test against the England Lions.

Shardul Stakes His Claim for All-Rounder Slot

All-rounder Shardul Thakur made an impact with the ball on Day 1 and remains in contention for a starting spot in the upcoming Test series. His consistent performances during the unofficial Tests—where he contributed 27, 19, and 34 with the bat and also picked up wickets—have strengthened his case. Thakur is in direct competition with youngster Nitish Kumar Reddy for the pace-bowling all-rounder position, making every warm-up opportunity crucial.

Meanwhile, Shubman Gill’s performance with the bat will be a major confidence booster. With a previous average of just 14.66 in England and only 88 runs across six innings, his half-century in the warm-up match could mark a turning point ahead of the challenging series.

A New Chapter Under Gill’s Captaincy

India’s first Test match against England is scheduled to begin on June 20 at Headingley, Leeds. This series will herald a new era for Indian cricket, with Shubman Gill taking over as Test captain following the retirements of stalwarts Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (from Tests), and Ravichandran Ashwin (from all formats). Matches will be held across iconic English venues including Edgbaston, Lord’s, The Oval, and Old Trafford.

The Indian squad, a blend of experience and young talent, includes names like Rishabh Pant (vice-captain), Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and rising stars like Sai Sudharsan and Abhimanyu Easwaran.
