The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled some important information regarding New York’s Nassau County Cricket Stadium, which will host the Pakistan-India match in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.
According to the International Cricket Council, the Nassau County Cricket Stadium is nearing completion for the T20 World Cup, which begins on June 2 in the United States.
From June 2 to June 29, the United States of America (USA) and the Caribbean Islands will host the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup. In the forthcoming major competition, the Indian side, captained by Rohit Sharma, will be looking to snap their trophy drought with the ICC.
The team captained by Rohit Sharma is grouped with Ireland, Pakistan, the United States, and Canada. On Sunday, June 9, the Men in Blue will play their second group stage encounter at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York against their bitter rivals, Pakistan.
ICC Reveals Major Details About Pakistan vs. India 2024 T20WC Venue:
In under six months, the ICC and United States Cricket built a 34,000-seat stadium. Legendary Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt officially opened this facility on Long Island on Wednesday. There will be eight matches at the location, three of which will feature India.
The head of events for the ICC, Chris Tetley, said that the Nassau County ground easily satisfies international requirements. Tetley underlined that the ground is about the same size as Wankhede. He emphasized the venue’s top-notch drainage systems.
ICC said in a press release, “The four drop-in pitches cultivated with native Tahoma 31 Bermuda grass have now been installed at the ground, while the north and south premium hospitality and media pavilion structures are on track for imminent completion.”
ICC head of events, Chris Tetley, noted, “As we reach the final stages of construction of the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, we are delighted to see a world-class facility ready for the best cricketers in the world.”
Tetley revealed, “Nassau County Ground is not a token-size ground; it is 75 yards east-west and 67 yards north-south from the centre. It is similar to the size of Wankhede (a stadium in India). The drainage facilities, too, will be world-class.”
Tetley further added, “We can’t wait to see fans experience their own bit of history. With hospitality options across all matches in New York, including India and Pakistan, we would encourage fans to book now before they sell out.”
The venue’s galleries are temporary and impromptu, repurposed from the Formula One track in Las Vegas. These constructions will be returned once the competition has concluded.
