Team India registered an unwanted record after losing the first T20I against England at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad on Friday. India were comprehensively beaten by England who outplayed them in every department. Chasing 125 to win, the visitors won inside 15.3 overs and with eight wickets to spare. England won the game by eight wickets with Jason Roy scoring 49 and Jos Buttler and Jonny Bairstow scoring 28 and 26 * respectively.
Meanwhile, India’s loss was not taken lightly by their fans who criticized the wrong team selection and application by the players. The fans criticised the management for resting the in-form Rohit Sharma from the first game. As it turned out, the India openers Shikhar Dhawan (4) and KL Rahul (1) failed to give their team a good start. India were 22 for 3 inside the powerplay from where they never recovered to put up a fighting total.

Team India’s Unwanted Record After 1st T20I Loss
Meanwhile, Team India also registered an unwanted record after losing the first T20I. This became India’s second successive T20I defeat, with the last one coming versus Australia in the third T20I in December 2020. This was the first time India suffered two back to back losses in the format ever since November 2019. India lost to South Africa and Bangladesh in back to back games then.
Indian skipper Virat Kohli lamented saying that they had no proper plan on how to go about batting on the wicket which was absolutely flat. The England bowlers troubled Indian batters with their pace which is where Jofra Archer and Mark Wood excelled.
India were ultra-aggressive with their batting approach which backfired badly and they ended up scoring a below-par total.
“We just weren’t aware enough of what to do on that kind of pitch. Lack of execution of some of the shots and something we have to address as batsmen. It wasn’t an ideal day on the park. You have to accept your faults and come back in the next game with much more intent and clarity of plan” said Kohli.
Both teams meet again on Sunday for the second T20I at the Narendra Modi stadium which will host all the remaining four games.
