India Sets Unwanted Record After Losing Toss In IND vs PAK 2025 Champions Trophy Clash

Indian captain Rohit Sharma lost the toss in their 2025 Champions Trophy match against Pakistan at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, February 23. Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan opted to bat first in the highly anticipated encounter.

With this, India set an unwanted record, having now lost 12 consecutive tosses in ODIs—the longest streak in the format’s history. Rohit was responsible for nine of these, while KL Rahul lost the other three as stand-in captain.

The previous record was held by the Netherlands, who lost 11 straight tosses between 2011 and 2013. India’s last ODI toss win came during the World Cup semifinal against New Zealand on November 15, 2023.

Winning the toss was crucial for Rizwan, as Pakistan faced a must-win situation to keep their semi-final hopes alive in the 2025 Champions Trophy. A loss would eliminate them from contention. Explaining his decision to bat first, he said:

“We want to bat first. Looks like very good thats why we want to bat. Obviously if you play ICC tournaments, every match is important. The boys are familiar with these conditions. We want to do our best today. Yeah we lost last game but it’s in the past now.”

Rohit & Rizwan Laugh at Shastri’s Toss Antics in IND vs PAK Clash

India captain Rohit Sharma and Pakistan skipper Mohammad Rizwan shared a light moment as Ravi Shastri added his usual flair during the toss ahead of the high-profile clash. The match is taking place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, February 23.

Shastri is known for his dramatic toss antics, often introducing India and Pakistan like boxing contenders in ICC events. As in past matches, he called India the “blue corner” and Pakistan the “green corner,” metaphorically describing the game as a battle of punches.
