India To Bring In Ex-CSK Batter As Pant’s Replacement For Manchester Test: Reports

According to a report by Cricbuzz, former Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper-batter Narayan Jagadeesan is expected to replace injured India vice-captain Rishabh Pant in the squad for the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Pant suffered a fractured metatarsal after being hit on the right foot while attempting a reverse sweep off Chris Woakes during the final session on Day 1 (Wednesday, July 23) of the ongoing Test in Manchester. Medical evaluations have advised a recovery period of up to six weeks.

Before the start of play on Day 2 (Thursday, July 24), the BCCI confirmed that Dhruv Jurel would assume wicketkeeping duties for the rest of the match. However, the 27-year-old Pant remained available to bat if needed.

Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batter N. Jagadeesan is set to join India’s squad for the fifth Test at The Oval on July 31, as per reports. The 29-year-old has scored 3,373 runs in 52 first-class matches at an average of 47.50, including 10 centuries and a top score of 321.

Injury Setback Hits Pant’s Likely Replacement Ahead Of Manchester Test

Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan, who was reportedly being considered as a replacement for Rishabh Pant on India’s England tour, is also nursing an injury. Journalist Devendra Pandey revealed on X (formerly Twitter) on Thursday, July 24, that the 27-year-old suffered a fall a few days ago and required stitches on his leg.

This development adds to India’s growing injury woes, with Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep already ruled out of the fourth Test. Additionally, seam-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy has been sidelined for the remainder of the series due to a knee injury.

Ishan Kishan, who last played a Test in July 2023, was part of India A’s 2025 England tour and played two red-ball games for Nottinghamshire. The BCCI later confirmed that Dhruv Jurel would take over wicketkeeping duties from the injured Rishabh Pant, who may still bat if needed.
