Team India will not tour of Sri Lanka in June amid the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic as Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) hoped. However, the two boards will try to play the series in August when the curves flatten. The Men in Blues will play three ODIs followed by the same number of T20Is.
Meanwhile, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not yet ready to send the team amid coronavirus pandemic. As a result of which, SLC is working with the government to host the tournament in the next couple of months.
India tour of Sri Lanka cancelled
However, for that to happen, Sri Lanka will have to work with the Indian government to ensure the safety of visiting players. But those are far-fetched dreams and as of now, the series in June will not go ahead as per the schedule.
“The India national team tour of Sri Lanka, which was scheduled to take place during the month of June, 2020 will not go ahead, as scheduled,” SLC said in a media release on Thursday.
“The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) informed Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) that due to the prevailing circumstances revolving around Covid-19 pandemic, the cricket series, which included three ODIs and three T20I matches will not be feasible,” it added.
Meanwhile, BCCI remains committed to the FTP and a series is on the cards. Last week, SLC began a residential camp in Colombo mainly with the bowlers. With the situations under control, they are planning to ramp up training over the next few weeks.
The next series on the cards for Sri Lanka is against Bangladesh, originally scheduled to play in July. While they are upbeat to go ahead with the tour, SLC is yet to receive a green signal for the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
