The Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) announced on Monday that fans holding tickets for the second T20I between India and England can avail free metro travel to and from the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The T20I series kicks off in Kolkata on Wednesday, 22 January, before moving to Chennai for the second match on Saturday. Tickets for the Chennai game have sold out, with the Chepauk stadium expected to be packed for the weekend clash, coming right after the city’s Pongal celebrations.
In collaboration with the TNCA, Chennai Metro Rail previously provided free metro services for ticket holders during the IPL 2023 season. This initiative is designed to alleviate traffic congestion around the historic venue, located near Marina Beach.
“Match ticket holders can avail free metro rides for both up and down journeys,” the TNCA announced in a social media post.
Chennai will host an international match for the first time since the Test against Bangladesh in September 2024. Additionally, the MA Chidambaram Stadium will welcome a white-ball game for the first time since the 2023 World Cup.

India Begins Limited-Overs Season After Challenging 2024-25 Test Campaign
India will begin their limited-overs season after a challenging 2024-25 Test campaign, which saw them lose to New Zealand at home and Australia away. Despite setbacks in Tests, the T20 World Cup champions have been in strong form, beating Bangladesh at home and South Africa away last year, fueled by their World Cup success.
The Indian team arrived in Kolkata on Saturday and conducted a three-day training camp ahead of the first T20I. Notably, the bowlers practiced with a wet ball on Tuesday evening to prepare for the expected dewy conditions during the match.
“If we know there is going to be heavy dew, you start preparing with the wet ball. You bowl with the wet ball during practice sessions. You field with the wet ball. So, these are the things that are within your control,” India captain Suryakumar Yadav said on the eve of the first T20I.
“We try to control all those factors during practice sessions so that, when the game comes, we are prepared.”
