Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was very vocal after his side clean-swept the Kiwis in the T20I series. With the team already having started its preparations for the next T20 World Cup, Rohit spoke about the roles and responsibilities assigned to every player and he as captain along with the coach is backing the players to perform to their best possibility.
Rohit Sharma has shown the way by winning the Player of the series. With 159 runs from three games, he ended as the top-scorer in the series as well. He said that whatever the players do for the team will never go unnoticed as the players have the backing of the coach and the captain.
“The first meeting that we had, we spoke of this very clearly to all the players that if you’re trying to do something for the team, that act will never go unnoticed. It will always be recognized when you’re trying to put up your hand and take the pressure on yourself and trying to do something for the team. That is the job of the captain and the coach to tell the players that we do understand what you’re trying to do for the team, you go and take your chances.”
“If it comes off, good, if not, we’ll still back you because you’re doing it for the team. Anything anyone does for the team, it’s always a good sign and you have to back that thought and that’s what we’re going to do here and stay consistent to do that as much as possible” he added.
Rohit Sharma Praises India’s Abundance Of Talented Players
Rohit Sharma further admitted that picking a playing XI for the games was difficult given that their is so much of talent within the squad. He went into say that they are trying their best to address the problem without letting the players feel the pressure about it.
“With the talent we have in India, it’s not easy, you have to see so many options. Most of the guys who are sitting outside have also done really, really well. You try and fit everyone into the squad but only 11 can play so it’s not easy. It’s always tough but we will try our best to ensure that whenever the players step out they don’t have any baggage.”
Rohit’s comments came after India registered a series win by beating the Kiwis by 73 runs in Kolkata. They did it while defending their target as well which makes the win all the more important. The two teams next meet in a two-Test series starting with the first Test in Kanpur (Nov 25-19).
