India vs South Africa 1st ODI: Arshdeep Singh Picks His Maiden Five Wicket Haul

India is currently facing South Africa in the first One-day international match of the series played at Wanders, Johannesburg on 17th December 2023. It was a dream bowling effort by Indian pace bowlers Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh breaking the backbone of the South African batting lineup.

South African captain Aiden Markram won the toss and decided to bat first. Arshdeep Singh produced the magic getting wickets of Reeza Hendricks taking inside edge onto the stumps and then dismissing Rassie Van der Dussen in the first over to put pressure on the hosts’ batting lineup. The left-arm pace bowler rattled the batting lineup getting the wickets of Tony de Zorzi with a sharp catch by KL Rahul.

He then produced a peach to get rid of Heinrich Klassen to leave the South African team in deep trouble. Arshdeep Singh was taken for runs but got rid of Andile Phehlukwayo for his maiden five-wicket haul in a One-day international format. It was a superb bowling effort with the pitch having seam movement and creating enough panic among the South African batters. Arshdeep Singh ended with figures of 5 for 37 in 10 overs.

During his brilliant bowling effort, Arshdeep Singh gave away 1 boundary and 2 sixes. Arshdeep Singh created enough doubts on the South African batters. Avesh Khan also bowled with great control picking up 4 wickets that made life tough for the hosts batters. Kuldeep Yadav ended the innings getting the wicket of Nandie Burger to bowl out South Africa for just 116 in 27.3 overs. For South Africa, Andile Phehlukwayo was the top scorer with 33.
