India women’s cricket team openers Deepti Sharma & Poonam Raut create history:-  Indian women cricketers Deepti Sharma and Punam Raut shared a record breaking first wicket stand of 320-runs against Ireland women today in an ODI at Potchefstroom in South Africa.

In the process, they became the first pair to share a 300 plus runs stand in ODI cricket history. India ended up scoring 358/3 in the 50 overs. Indian women’s team is playing a Quadrangular series as a part of their preparation for ICC women’s world cup starting next month. The other two teams in the series apart from india and Ireland are Zimbabwe and hosts South Africa.

Deepti Sharma hammered 188 of just 166 deliveries which now becomes the second highest score by a woman in ODIs only behind Belinda Clark of Australia who had scored 229 against Denmark. Raut and sharma took 45.3 overs to stitch up this historic partnership which was followed by a quick-fire cameo by Shikha Pandey of 27 in just 14 balls helping India post their highest ever team total, racing past their previous highest of 298 against west indies in 2004.

Sharma’s knock of 188 was studded with 27 fours and two sixes, as Poonam Raut on the other end played a role of supporter scoring 109 runs of 116 balls with the help of 11 boundaries.

India seems to be breaking quite a few records in this quadrangular tournament. Earlier in the series, Indian pacer Jhulan Goswami had become the all-time highest wicket-taker in Women”s ODIs with 181 wickets in 153 matches.

India completed another handsome win in the eighth match of the series, as they dismissed the hapless Ireland for a paltry 109 inside 40 overs, winning by a massive 249 runs. Prior to this match also, the Indian women’s team have been at their dominating best, beating Ireland by 10 wickets, South Africa by 7 wickets and thrashing Zimbabwe by 9 wickets.
