The Board of Control for Cricket in India is ready to draft its men’s and women’s team to the Olympics if cricket gets included in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. On Friday, BCCI agreed to the idea of sending the teams. It has nodded to India women’s participation in the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
During the virtual meeting, they decided that the Indian teams will participate if cricket becomes a part of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The process will depend on Indian Olympic Association (IOA), whether they will let the board decide the squads independently or not.
“The apex council has in principle, accepted that the teams will be sent to the Los Angeles games if cricket is included in the roster. And it has also been decided to send the women’s team for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. The details will be worked out over a period of time,” a BCCI official said.
Last year in the Annual General Meeting, the Board decided to consider all the possibilities regarding participation at the Olympics. On Friday, the members gave the green flag.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has formed a committee to decide on the possibilities of making cricket a part of the Olympics. They had a conversation with Olympic Committee (IOC). Previously, BCCI did not want to perform under NADA, but now things have smoothened.
