Indian pacer Manpreet Gony announces retirement; signs up for Global T20 Canada

Manpreet Gony announced his retirement from all formats of the game. He represented India in two ODI matches in the Asia cup 2008 edition. He has been one of the pace batteries for his Punjab side in domestic formats. Gony has now signed up with Toronto Nationals side to play the Global T20 league at Canada.

Manpreet Gony rose to prominence after his participation in the cash-rich Indian Premier League. Representing Chennai Super Kings in the initial seasons, he was one of their mainstream bowlers. Overall he played 44 IPL games picking up 37 wickets. Gony was also roped into the now defunct Deccan Chargers and Kings XI Punjab for few seasons. Lately, he was also signed by Gujarat Lions in 2017 season.

Manpreet Gony always was in the limelight in the domestic arena. Playing 61 first-class matches, he scored over 1226 runs and picked up 196 wickets for the Punjab side. One of his remarkable achievements would be ending up as a leading wicket-taker for the Punjab side in the 2017-18 season.

In his latest Instagram post, Gony thanked all the BCCI officials and Punjab Cricket Association for letting him play over the last two decades. Gony also made clear in his post that he will continue representing a few sides in the global leagues.

Gony is now the second player after Yuvraj Singh to sign up for the Global T20 league. This league is entering its second season this year and was able to attract a lot of viewers last year.
