England suffered its first series loss since the appointment of Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum as captain and coach. Despite a strong performance in Hyderabad, England had numerous opportunities to maintain their lead against India. However, Rohit Sharma and his team put up a resilient fight, ultimately emerging victorious.
In the fourth test match, India successfully chased down a target of 192 runs to secure a five-wicket win over England, thereby taking an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. Rohit Sharma (55) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (37) provided India with a solid start, guiding them to 84 without loss.
This victory extended India’s remarkable record of consecutive test series wins at home. Since 2012-13, when Alastair Cook’s England side defeated MS Dhoni’s India, the Indian team has not lost a test series on home soil. Captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged the challenges faced by the team throughout the series, including R Ashwin’s injury and the absence of star batter Virat Kohli.
Dhruv Jurel was praised by Rohit Sharma for his composed batting performance, particularly his crucial knock of 90 runs in the first innings. Shubman Gill (52) and Dhruv Jurel (39) also played crucial roles in India’s victory, forming an unbeaten partnership of 72 runs for the sixth wicket.
Although England’s spinners, led by Shoaib Bashir (3-79), caused a collapse in India’s batting lineup, Gill and Jurel steadied the ship and guided India to victory. Despite facing significant pressure, they managed to defy the English bowlers and secure the win.
The match saw some tense moments, particularly when Rohit Sharma was dismissed after reaching his half-century, followed by quick wickets of other Indian batsmen. However, Gill and Jurel’s resilience ensured India’s triumph.
The fifth and final test of the series is scheduled to take place in Dharamsala on March 7th, where both teams will look to end the series on a high note.
