The BCCI has announced that four uncapped Indian fast bowlers will travel with the Indian test squad to South Africa. Mohammad Siraj, Basil Thampi, Navdeep Saini and Under 19 bowler Avesh Khan would get a chance to be net bowlers. These four young bowlers have shown their abilities in various tournaments like Ranji Trophy, IPL and also India A level.

Basil Thampi, Mohammad Siraj were selected in the T20I squad against Sri Lanka. Thampi was injured during the quarterfinal match against Vidarbha at Surat.

“These four are the next-in-line bowlers after the top five who are in the Test squad. Since the pacers in the Test squad should not be put under overexertion during the net sessions, it is only prudent that the next best lot of quick bowlers are there to provide quality practice,” a BCCI official told PTI.

It will be learning for these young players to bowl on South Africa pitches and bowl to Indian batsmen. India will take on South Africa in a most anticipated 3 match test series starting from 5th January 2018. 17 man squad will travel to South Africa.
