Pak performances in WC 2023

Pakistan chairman Zaka Ashraf resigned from his post after poor performances in the T20I series against New Zealand by 1-4 and then was whitewashed by Australia in the Test series by 0-3 away on Australian soil.

It was a disappointing outing for the Pakistan team in the 2023 World Cup as they won only 4 matches against Sri Lanka, Netherlands, Bangladesh, and New Zealand in the entire tournament. Apart from this, they lost to teams like India, Australia, England, South Africa and Afghanistan. Former Pakistan captain Inzamam said that Zaka Ashraf impacted the mindset of Pakistan players in the World Cup 2023.

Pakistan cricket suffered a lot as Inzamam UL Haq had to step down from the post of chief selector on 30th October due to allegations of conflict of interest. Under the captaincy of Babar Azam, they could not qualify for the knockout stages and tension between Inzamam and Zaka Ashraf was growing.

“In an important event like the World Cup in India, hearing that the PCB chairman is saying the team selected was not done by the board but by the captain and chief selector only creates a negative mindset among the players.”

Pakistan’s performance in the World Cup 2023 was not great as they finished 5th in the points table. Since the last 3 World Cups including 2015, 2019, and 2023, Pakistan has not progressed to the knockout stages.

Pakistan’s performances dipped across all formats

The Pakistan Cricket Team’s performances have dipped across all formats. They could not qualify for the finals of the Asia Cup 2023 played in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. After this, Pakistan struggled with their performances in the 2023 World Cup as they failed to qualify for the knockout stage.

Mohammed Hafeez was appointed the director of Pakistan cricket and it has seen a decline in the performances. Under his coaching, Pakistan was whitewashed by 0-3 in the Test series against Australia in Australia.

They also suffered a 1-4 loss in the recently concluded T20I series against New Zealand in New Zealand. Shaheen Shah Afridi was appointed as the T20I captain after Zaka Ashraf and Co stripped Babar Azam from captaincy across all formats. Shan Masood was named the captain of the Test series against Australia.
