IPL 2018: Chennai Super Kings beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets to top the points table

Chennai Super Kings returned to winning ways by beating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 wickets in the 35th match of VIVO IPL played at MCA Stadium, Pune just finished a few moments ago. MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to field, CSK bowlers did a great job to restrict RCB for just 127 runs. While chasing, CSK struggled but MS Dhoni and Bravo chased the target with ease.

Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni won the toss and elected to field first. Lungi Ngidi got the big breakthrough dismissing Brendon McCullum for just 5 runs. Parthiv Patel who came to play his first match of the tournament looked aggressive with his strokeplay putting pressure on CSK bowlers. At the end of 6 overs, Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 47 runs.

Soon after the power play overs, Ravindra Jadeja got the big wicket of Royal Challengers captains Virat Kohli for 8 runs. AB de Villiers who was coming back after an illness was dismissed cheaply for 1 run. Patel was looking at the other as wickets fell at regular intervals. The wicketkeeper-batsman Parthiv reached his half-century off 37 balls and was dismissed by Ravindra Jadeja.

Royal Challengers Bangalore lost wickets at regular intervals. Tim Southee and Mohammad Siraj added 38 runs for the 9th wicket. Southee remained not out on 36 off 26 balls. Royal Challengers Bangalore posted 127 for 9 in 20 overs.

For Chennai Super Kings, Ravindra Jadeja picked 3 wickets while Harbhajan Singh 2 and Willey, Ngidi one each.

Chasing 128 to win, Shane Watson was dismissed by Umesh Yadav for 11 runs. Suresh Raina and Rayadu steadied the innings. At the end of 6 overs, CSK scored 42 for 1. Both of them added 44 runs for the 2nd wicket.

Royal Challengers Bangalore came strongly dismissing Suresh Raina, Rayadu and Dhruv Shorey in quick succession to leave CSK at 80 for 4. Bravo and Dhoni showed class with bat adding unbeaten 48 runs to give Chennai Super Kings a win by 6 wickets with 2 overs to spare.

CSK 128 for 4 in 18 overs ( Rayadu 32, MS Dhoni 31*, Suresh Raina 25, Umesh Yadav 2/15) beat

RCB 127 for 9 in 20 over’s ( Parthiv Patel 53, Tim Southee 36*,  Ravindra Jadeja 3/18, Harbhajan Singh 2/22) by 6 wickets.

RCB captain Virat Kohli said: Losing early wickets did not help our cause. The pitch was slow in the first half and also in the second half too, it played slowly too. The boys showed fight but we lost too many wickets. We need to four out of next 5 matches to progress into the playoff stages. These situations bring best out of the team.

CSK captain MS Dhoni said: Harbhajan Singh and Ravindra Jadeja bowled well. The pitch did not have any turn but our bowlers did a great job. Identifying the death of bowlers would be important going ahead in the tournament. Getting Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers helped us to restrict RCB.

Man of the match Ravindra Jadeja said: Very happy with my performance today. The pitch was little too dry today. I took important wickets and restricted the run flow. It was a great thing that our team came back after a loss to KKR. Look to bowl well in upcoming games and help my team to win matches.

The last time these two teams met in this tournament, CSK defeated RCB in a high scoring thriller at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
