The MCA stadium, Pune is all set to welcome Chennai super Kings as their “new home” for the remaining matches of IPL 2018.

The announcement came as a result of the protest of certain political groups at the stadium who threw shoes at Jadeja and Tahir during the match against Knight Riders. Several protesters gathered in and around the stadium to express their dissent to the government on  “Cauvery Management Board”.

IPL 2018: Suresh Raina ruled out for 2 Matches Due to Injury

Videos showing the fans beaten up and the CSK flags burnt outside the stadium received huge public attention over the past 24 hours in the social media.

In February, the Supreme Court had directed the Centre to form a body that will implement water-sharing between Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducherry and Kerala by March 29 according to a formula is suggested. But no action was taken. As the deadline expired, the Centre filed an appeal in top court, asking for clarifications on the structure of the body.

Cauvery issue played a vital role in shattering the dreams of Chennai fans who were set to welcome their team home after a period of three years. In 2014, matches were cancelled at Chennai and Ranchi was chosen to be the venue for Super Kings as the Srilankan players weren”t allowed to play at TN.

Speaking to the media, Rajiv Shukla the chairman of IPL said, “The matches had to be shifted out of Chennai as police had said that they were unable to provide security in the prevailing situation. CSK is not averse to shifting base to Pune.”

Though there were reports that suggested Trivandrum /Kochi be the possible choices, Pune has been chosen as the official home venue.

CSK will start their campaign against RR at this very venue on April 20th.

The Pune stadium will now host 8 matches that include the home games of super Kings and two playoffs.
