IPL 2018: New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi joins the Rajasthan Royals squad

The New Zealand leg-spinner Ish Sodhi has been added to the squad as a replacement for left-arm spinner Zahir Khan. Rajasthan Royals lost their first match by 9 wickets to Sunrisers Hyderabad and will play his maiden IPL.

Currently, Ish Sodhi is the number 4th ranked bowler in T20I cricket has been bought by Rajasthan Royals squad for a base of RS 50 Lakhs.

During the January 2017 season in Big Bash League, the leg-spinner took the second-best figures in Australia’s best league. He represented Adelaide Strikers during that 2017 edition. Ish took 6/11 and helped Strikers win the match by 77 runs. It was a brilliant performance by the leg-spinner who came as a replacement for England’s Chris Jordan towards the end of the season.

Ish Sodhi has lots of experience of playing in Indian conditions. He was a part of the New Zealand A squad which toured India on last tours. Also, the New Zealand leg-spinner showed class with his spinning abilities during the 2016 World T20 held in India. During the ODI series against India in September, Ish Sodhi came as a replacement for Todd Astle.

Recently, Ish Sodhi proved his credentials with a match-saving knock in the second test match against England against Christchurch. He made 56 off 168 balls and helped New Zealand to draw the test match.

Ish Sodhi made his T20I debut for New Zealand against West Indies in 2014. He has played so far 26 T20I’s with 36 wickets to his name at an economy of 7.43 runs per over. The New Zealand leg-spinner was unsold in the auctions.

Sodhi will be looking to maximize the chance of bowling against the top players. Rajasthan Royals play their first home against Delhi Daredevils at Jaipur today.
