IPL 2018: Sanju Samson struck 92 not out as Rajasthan Royals register their 2nd win

On the back of Sanju Samson 92, Rajasthan Royals defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 19 runs at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore just a few moments ago. RCB captain Kohli won the toss and elected to field first. Samson scored 92, contributions from Buttler, Stokes helped RR to post 218. Chasing 219, Kohli scored 57, Mandeep Singh 47 not out and Washington Sundar 35 could not take RCB close to the target.

Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli won the toss and elected to field first. Rajasthan Royals captain Ajiyanka Rahane provided a solid start with aggressive batting while Short could hit big shots. Woakes got the breakthrough dismissing Rahane for 36 runs. Both Rahane and Short added 49 runs for the 1st wicket. At the end of first 6 overs, Rajasthan Royals were 52 for 1.

After the power play overs, Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Darcy Short for 11 runs. Sanju Samson and Ben Stokes played with positive intent putting pressure on Royal Challengers Bangalore bowling line up. Both Samson and Stokes added 49 runs for the 3rd wicket. Samson showed his class with some great hitting.

Samson completed his half-century off 34 balls and with Jos Buttler smashed Royal Challengers Bangalore to all parts of the ground. Both Samson and Buttler added 73 runs in quick time. Samson remained not out on 92 from 45 balls while Tripathi also made quick fire 14 off 5 balls. Rajasthan Royals posted a massive total of 217 for 4 in 20 overs.

Chasing a massive target of 218, Royal Challengers Bangalore lost an early wicket of Brendon McCullum in the first over itself. Virat Kohli and Quinton de Kock played with positive intent putting pressure on Rajasthan Royals bowlers. At the end of 6 overs, RCB scored 64 for 1.

After the 6 overs, Quinton de Kock was dismissed by Short for 26 runs. Both Kohli and de Kock added 77 runs for a 2nd wicket. Captain Kohli reached his half-century off 26 balls. RCB lost 2 important wickets of Kohli and AB de Villiers in quick succession.

Mandeep Singh and Washington Sundar played some wonderful strokes but it was not enough for RCB to go beyond the line. Royal Challengers Bangalore scored 198 for 6 in 20 overs.

RR 217 for 4 in 20 overs ( Sanju Samson 92*, Yuzvendra Chahal 2/22) beat

RCB 198 for 6 in 20 overs ( Kohli 57, Mandeep Singh 47*, Sheryas Gopal 2/22) by 19 runs.

RR captain Rahane said: We were looking for 160-170. It was a great performance by our team to beat a dangerous side like RCB. K Gowtham and Gopal bowled really well. Both the young bowlers held their nerves.

RCB captain Kohli said: It was a poor bowling display by our bowlers. We did very well in the first 10 overs. Credit to Sanju Samson who took the game from us. I orde Villiers should have played till the end. Mandeep Singh and Washington Sundar also performed well with the bat.

Man of the match Sanju Samson said: I am feeling good, hitting the ball really well. The tournament has just started and wanted to win many matches as I can on the field. Sanju Samson played with positive intent and created pressure on Royal Challengers Bangalore line-up.

Rajasthan Royals won their 2nd match in succession while RCB lost its second match.
