IPL 2018: Watson & Dhoni power Chennai Super Kings to the top of the points table

Chennai Super Kings returned back to winning ways defeating Delhi Daredevils by 13 runs in the 30th match of VIVO IPL 2018 played at MCA Stadium, Pune just a few minutes ago. Delhi captain Sheryas Iyer won the toss and fielded first. The superb opening partnership between Watson and Faf du Plessis, great hitting by Dhoni and Rayadu helped CSK post a massive total of 211 for 4 in 20 overs. While chasing, Delhi lost 4 quick wickets, Pant played a great knock and Vijay also scored 50 but not help DD to chase down the big target. 3

Delhi Daredevils captain Sheryas Iyer won the toss and elected to field first. On the very first ball, Shane Watson was given a reprieve by Trent Boult as the umpire decision was not out and DD captain decided to review it, the umpire stayed with its decision as not out. Shane Watson played with positive aggression and put pressure on Delhi Daredevils bowlers.

At the end of 6 overs, Chennai Super Kings scored 56 runs for 0. After the powerplay overs, Shane Watson took on Delhi Daredevils bowlers and smashed them for big sixes, while Faf du Plessis also scored well. Watson completed his half-century off 25 balls and continued to punish Delhi Daredevils bowlers. Faf du Plessis has dismissed for 33 balls 33 runs, putting 102 runs in 10.5 overs with Watson.

Suresh Raina also was dismissed cheaply for 1 run. Watson scored 78 off 40 balls and was dismissed by Mishra. The Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Rayadu smashed the Delhi Daredevils adding 79 runs in quick time. MS Dhoni looked in tremendous touch making batting look easy.

MS Dhoni completed his half-century off 22 balls and remained not out. Chennai Super Kings posted a massive total of 211 for 4 in 20 overs. For Delhi Daredevils, Amit Mishra, Vijay Shankar and Glenn Maxwell took 1 wicket each.

Chasing a massive target of 212, KM Asif got the big wicket of young Delhi Daredevils opener Prithvi Shaw for 9 runs. Collin Munro looked positive playing positive strokes. KM Asif took the big wicket of Munro for 26 off 16 balls. At the end of 6 over’s, Delhi Daredevils scored 59 for 2.

After the power play overs, Delhi Daredevils lost the big wicket of Sheryas Iyer for 13 runs. Glenn Maxwell could not contribute much as he was dismissed for 6 runs by Ravindra Jadeja. Pant looked impressive with power hitting and reached his half-century off 34 balls. Both Pant and Shankar added 88 runs for the 5th wicket. Pant was dismissed for 79 off 45 balls.

Vijay Shankar also hit some big sixes and reached his half-century off 28 balls. Delhi Daredevils scored 198 for 5, felt short of the target by 13 runs.

CSK 211 for 4 in 20 overs ( Watson 78, Dhoni 51, Rayadu 41, Amit Mishra 1/30) beat

DD 198 for 5 in 20 overs ( Pant 79, Vijay Shankar 54*, KM Asif 2/40, Lungi Ngidi 1/26) by 13 runs.

DD captain Sheryas Iyer said: It was a big total to chase down. Losing 4 quick wickets dented our chase badly. We need to win 6 out 6 matches. Our next matches are at Delhi and if we can keep our motivation levels up then we can matches. Pant was brilliant while Shankar also played a great hand.

CSK captain MS Dhoni said: The start provided by Watson and Faf du Plessis was brilliant, giving the foundation for us to post a massive total. Sam Billings needed some rest. The death bowling has not been great. Rayadu in the middle order give us some stability. Lungi Ngidi was decent in his debut match.

Man of the match Shane Watson said: I was happy to contribute to team’s success.  I got few balls to get going and was great to make an impact on the match. To play in such a big tournament like IPL at this age has been superb. MS Dhoni is hitting the ball as good as he can get.

Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on Mumbai Indians in tomorrow”s match at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore.
