Young Kolkata Knight Riders pacer Shivam Mavi is making all the right noises with his performance in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League. A highly-rated fast bowler, the youngster first made an impression during the U-19 World Cup in Australia.
He fared well and led the bowling attack alongside Kamlesh Nagarkoti to guide India to the prestigious title. He had scalped six wickets in three matches. Mavi clocked 149kmph during a game against Australia which stunned Sourav Ganguly and Ian Bishop, who were a part of the commentary team in New Zealand.
Trained under the watchful eyes of Rahul Dravid, Shivam Mavi honed his skills and is currently one of the promising fast bowlers in the country. However, a couple of injuries had halted his career time and again. He lost out on a year after doing damage to the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in his left leg.
But Mavi holds his shape to come back again and deliver the good for his side. Still early in his career, he has earned praise from all sections including from former Australian fast bowler Brett Lee.
“I think Mavi has got everything,” Lee had said earlier. “His actions are beautiful and he packs himself as a fully furnished bowler. With youngsters like Mavi, it’s extremely important to play with confidence, enjoying the spirit of the game.”
