The future of the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) scheduled to commence from March 29 has found itself in jeopardy amid the rapid growth of the novel coronavirus. So much so, the governing council are pondering to organise matches in empty stadiums to rule out the threat of spreading the epidemic. Veteran opening batsman Aaron Finch has expressed that it will be weird to play in empty stadiums.
IPL matches have attracted massive turnouts since its birth in 2008. The mad fans and loud stadiums are one of the major attractions of the cash-rich league which has turned out to be a global event. But the coronavirus threat spreading rapidly, there is every possibility of closed-door matches. The Governing Council will meet on March 14 to decide on the future course of action amid all the dark clouds over the 13the edition of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Aaron Finch, who is set to ply his trade for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2020, has admitted that it would be weird to play in an empty stadium. He feels so because most players are accustomed to playing these tournaments in a jam-packed stadium.
“It would be weird to play in an empty stadium, no doubt,” Australia limited-overs captain Finch was quoted as saying by Espncricinfo.
“You get so accustomed to the atmosphere of the fans who ride the momentum, especially at home with the Australian fans who support us so well. If it comes to that we’ll wait and see, I saw the NBA being suspended for the near future. It’s interesting to see, not ideal obviously. A lot of people effected which is unfortunate,” he added.
