Kings XI Punjab lost to Sunrises Hyderabad by 69 runs in match 22 in IPL 2020 in Dubai. This is KXIP fifth loss in six games while for SRH this was their third win. Sunrisers have pipped KKR to the number three spot on the points table while KXIP are languishing at the bottom of the points table. This was the 11th win for David Warner’s men over their opponents in 15 games so far between the two sides. More about the KXIP vs SRH match report in detail below.

Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner won the toss and elected to bat first. The duo of Warner (52) and Jonny Bairstow (97) added a 160-run stand for the first wicket. In the process, Warner scored his 50th fifty-plus score in the IPL, the most by any batsman. The partnership was broken in the 16th over as Kings XI Punjab took their first wicket after 35 overs and conceding over 400 runs before taking the wicket. Bairstow too fell in the same over as SRH lost three quick wickets to go from 1160/0 to 161/3.

The KXIP bowlers gave away just 41 runs in the last five overs and took six wickets as SRH finished on 201/6. Ravi Bishnoi was the standout bowler for Punjab taking 3 for 25.

Fifth Loss For Kings XI Punjab

Punjab had a bad start to their chase. They lost Mayank Agarwal (9) in the very second over via a run-out. It was all downhill from there for KXIP as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Nicholas Pooran (77 off 37) then played a counter-attacking innings smashing seven sixes in his knock. he also took 28 off an over from Abhishek Sharma as he took him to the cleaners.

However, the run-out of Glenn Maxwell (11) again opened the floodgates for SRH. Once, he was out, Pooran was left all alone to do the scoring. In trying to up the ante, he fell as well on 77. That brought an end to any hopes a KXIP win which looked tougher with him at the wicket as well.

Finally, Punjab were bowled out for 132 handing Sunrisers a mammoth win in terms of runs. Things looks tough from KXIP hereon, as they look to bring their campaign back on track. For SRH, they will hope to continue the winning run. Punjab face Kolkata in their next game (October 10, Saturday), while SRH face Rajasthan Royals on (October 11, Sunday).

What Was the Turning Point in The Game?

KXIP losing KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal early in the chase and Glenn Maxwell not supporting Nicholas Pooran turned out to be the turning point for KXIP at the end of the game. Rashid Khan kept check on the scoring rate in the middle-overs. That also worked against  Punjab.

Jonny Bairstow, for his breathtaking 97 was awarded the Man of the Match in the game.

“Very pleased. The consistency is the key. The partnership at the top was the key tonight. He’s (Warner) a good fun, we know what a quality batter he is. I am happy with the way I am striking. The temperature is different, the dimensions and pitches are different too. The guys held the nerve. (On keeping to Rashid Khan) It’s great fun, tricky at times” said the SRH wicketkeeper-batsman on the outcome of the game.
