The outbreak of the pandemic coronavirus had a toll on all the sporting activities across the globe including the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had to postpone the league until April 15 which was scheduled to commence from March 29.

As the speculations continue to rife, Australian speedster Pat Cummins had revealed that he is keeping himself fit for IPL 2020. Cummins grabbed the headlines when he became the costliest player of the IPL 2020 auction. The right-arm pacer drew bids from Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the start. KKR made just two bids and snared him for a record price of Rs 15.5 crore, making him the biggest overseas pick in the history of IPL auction.

While BCCI is yet to take a call on the future of IPL 2020 due to a prevailing lockdown, Pat Cummins has expressed that he is ready to play the tournament behind closed doors. The cricketer is ready to get up with the game despite talking about the safety of the players.

“Of course — whatever it takes to try and get cricket up and play those big events safely,” said Cummins when the Aussie pacer was asked whether he would fancy playing the IPL 2020 as a curtailed event.

Furthermore, Pat Cummins spoke about the safety-first approach. He is also of the view of playing big events in an empty stadium because people can at least watch it on the television. However, it remains to be seen what BCCI does with IPL 2020 with no signs of improvement in the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The first priority is safety but the second one is getting back to normality. It’s finding that balance. If that, unfortunately, means no crowds for a while then that’s that but hopefully, people can watch at home on television,” Cummins added, reports AFP.
