The Kolkata Knight Riders are playing the Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020 at Abu Dhabi. KKR skipper Dinesh Karthik won the toss and opted to bat first in the afternoon match.

Early in the innings Kolkata Knight Riders suffered a big blow as their hero in the last match Rahul Tripathi fell cheaply.

Mohammed Shami bowled a ripper and clean bowled Tripathi. The ball nipped back in to which Tripathi had no clue as his leg stump went flying behind him. The KKR opener struggled today and could only make 4 runs in 10 balls.

Come the next over it became a dream start for KXIP as Nitish Rana was run out for 2. Shubman Gill and Rana were involved in a terrible mix up as they both ended up at the striker’s end and KXIP executed an easy runout.

Gill gently nudged the ball to short fine leg and initially set off to take a single. However, when he saw the single could be risky he stood his ground and turned down the run. The decision was too late as Rana had already committed to the single and was standing next to gill when Pooran took the ball and removed the stumps.

Understandably, Nitish Rana was extremely disappointed and went back to the pavilion with utter disappointment. Rana trusted his partner’s call and ran but ultimately it proved to be his downfall and he went to the pavilion without making any contribution.

Meanwhile, after the wicket of Rana, Eoin Morgan came out to bat at number 4. Morgan and Gill are currently stitching together a partnership and consolidating the KKR innings. After the end of 7 overs, Morgan is batting on 10 and Gill at 18 and the KKR total is 38 for 2 wickets.
