The future of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is looking bright with each passing day. With speculations going around that International Cricket Council (ICC) might postpone the T20 World Cup, BCCI would seal the window for the cash-rich league. Australian fast bowler Pat Cummins feels IPL 2020 would be a great fit if the mega event doesn’t happen.
Meanwhile, Cummins grabbed the headlines when he became the costliest player of the IPL 2020 auction. The right-arm pacer drew bids from Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore at the start. However, Kolkata Knight Riders made just two bids and snared him for a record price of Rs 15.5 crore, making him the biggest overseas pick in the history of IPL auction.
IPL 2020 can be a great fit for T20 World Cup: Pat Cummins
Pat Cummins still remains confident that ICC T20 World Cup and Australia’s tour of England will go ahead. But if it doesn’t happen, the Aussie pace spearhead feels a return of T20 could be a boost to the game.
“If that opens up a window I think the IPL would be a great fit,” Cummins told media in Sydney.
“You have millions and millions of people watching that tournament around the world… potentially even more after a long break off cricket. There’s a lot of reasons why I would want it to go ahead but the main one is it’s a great tournament,” he added.
Meanwhile, originally, IPL 2020 was slated to commence from March 29. However, with the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, BCCI had to postpone the event for an indefinite period. However, they are still very hopeful about the tournament taking place as President Sourav Ganguly mentioned they will incur a loss of Rs 4000 crores otherwise.
