21-year-old Umran Malik from Jammu & Kashmir was roped in by Sunrisers Hyderabad as a short-term replacement for T Natarajan who was sidelined with an injury. Being eliminated out of the tournament, the side unleashed the youngster against KKR. He is the second player from J & K to play in the IPL after Abdul Samad who also played for SRH.

Umran Mailk bowled a spell of none for 27 and consistently clocked between 140-145 kmph. One of his deliveries was bowled at 150.06 KPH (93.24 MPH). On his debut in IPL, he caught the attention off all the commentators and mostly the former bowlers. They questioned as to why he was not given games earlier in the season when his side still had a chance of making it to the playoffs.

Umran Malik Bowls Over 150 On IPL Debut

Umran’s spell had made the KKR batsmen go into a shell during the middle phase of the innings. They hardly scored a run between overs 10 to 15 with the youngster bowling at some great speed.

Only Anrich Nortje and Lockie Ferguson has bowled at a faster speed than the youngster. Both the bowlers, known for their pace consistently clocked 150 during the second phase of the IPL. Ferguson, unfortunately, picked up an injury against Delhi Capitals and since then has missed the next two games for KKR. There are injury concerns for Andre Russell as well.

KKR won the game in the final over courtesy of Shubman Gill’s 57. Dinesh Karthik scored 18 off 12 in the end to take KKR home. They now have one last game left against Rajasthan Royals. They need to win the game to make it to the last four.

“I thought it was a real good game of cricket. At half time I knew it would be a tricky chase because the pitch was difficult. I was practicing a lot when I was doing commentary. It was just one of those days where I got lucky. This is not a game where you take the game deep. You create opportunities by using the crease and you play your shots. I think you need to be flexible. I would give a lot of credit to Rana, he was playing second fiddle to Shubman. He realized that there was no point matching him shot for shot. He took his time and then hit a couple of big hits. Fingers crossed for the next game” said Dinesh Karthik at the end of the game.
