IPL Franchise Chennai Super Kings has announced Sam Curran’s replacement for the remainder of the tournament. A lower back injury has ruled him out of the remaining leg and also the T20 World Cup later to be played in the UAE. CSK have reached the playoffs with a game to go. They play their final league game against Punjab Kings on October 7 in Dubai.
Chennai Super Kings have signed Dominic Drakes as a replacement for the injured England all-rounder Sam Curran for the remainder of the VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021.
Drakes is an uncapped West Indian all-rounder who has featured in one First-Class, 25 List A and 19 T20 matches so far. He is a left-handed batsman and a left-arm medium pacer.” said IPL in a statement.
Meanwhile, An ECB medical staff gave an official statement on the nature and extent of his injury. He further said that his brother Tom Curran replaces him in England’s T20 World Cup squad.
“He [Sam Curran] will fly back to the UK in the next couple of days and will have further scans and a full review later this week from the ECB’s medical team,” the release stated.
Sam Curran Picked 9 Wickets In IPL 2021
The southpaw complained of pain in his lower back after CSK’s game against Rajasthan Royals. Subsequent scans revealed the nature of his injury and ruled him out of the T20 World Cup beginning from October 17. In nine IPL games this season, Curran has scored 56 runs from four innings and took nine wickets. The southpaw’s injury is a big loss for the side’s team composition just ahead of the playoffs.
England are placed alongside Australia, South Africa and West Indies in group 1. Curran is one of the young cricketers being groomed by the England cricket circuit.
