Prithvi Shaw is attracting the eyeballs with his match-winning performances at the top of the order for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. Shaw again grabbed the limelight with his stupendous 39 off 22 deliveries against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on May 3.

During their last game, Shaw had an eventful moment in the second over of Punjab’s innings when Mayank Agarwal glided a delivery towards the deep square leg. Shaw was stationed at the place. He picked up the ball and threw it towards their skipper Rishabh Pant. But his threw frightened Pant, and he bent down.

DC thumped the PBKS outfit by seven wickets and registered a comfortable win at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad. Banking on the debutant captain Mayank Agarwal’s 99* off 58, Punjab put up a total of 166 runs. Kagiso Rabada stepped up as the leading bowler last night. In his four overs, he conceded 36 runs and scalped three wickets.

In response, DC’s batters chased down the target with no hiccup. DC’s star opener Shikhar Dhawan remained at the crease through the entire innings and knocked up 69* from 47 deliveries. Shaw did not sigh away from assaulting the PBKS bowlers and fired 39 runs off 22 balls. Then came Shimron Hetmyer, who destroyed the PBKS bowlers with his fierce 16* at the strike rate of 400.

Rishabh Pant’s Delhi Capitals are now the table-toppers after winning six out of eight games in this IPL till now.

PBKS had to adjust with a new captain yesterday as their regular captain was hospitalised with acute appendicitis. PBKS will face off Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore in their next game. DC to meet laggard Kolkata Knight Riders on May 8. DC were the runners-up in the IPL 2020 under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer.
