Former all-rounder Irfan Pathan has lauded Ishan Kishan’s knock against the Rajasthan Royals at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. Ishan was dropped from Mumbai Indians’ playing XI following a string of low scores. However, on Tuesday he made a dazzling comeback to the side.

Ishan Kishan slammed 50 runs off 25 deliveries, including 5 boundaries and three sixes at a strike rate of 200. Irfan Pathan believes Ishan Kishan’s return to form is good news for India ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup 2021 as the wicket-keeper batter has been selected in the team for the marquee tournament. Irfan said,

“It is good news for Indian cricket and not only for the Mumbai Indians. He played a little cautiously. When I see Ishan Kishan, he tries to play in a bold fashion from the first ball itself and he has all the shots to be a good batsman.”

Irfan Pathan added that Ishan Kishan did not look in a hurry initially, and paced his innings perfectly. He said,

“But he is sometimes in a hurry which was not the case today. Today, Rohit Sharma had made 14 runs in the first over but despite that he played the next over as a maiden. That means he had come with a game plan today that he will wait initially and once he is set and has gauged the surface, then only he will play the big shots.”

Chasing 91 runs, Ishan Kishan started cautiously as Rohit Sharma took on the bowlers from the other end. He was on 8 runs off 9 deliveries after the first four overs of the innings. Following, Ishan Kishan changed gears slamming consecutive boundaries in Kuldip Yadav’s over.

Irfan Pathan lauded Ishan Kishan’s approach adding that he was waiting for the deliveries, instead of going for them. He said,

“Earlier we used to often see that he tried to score runs on the leg side but today he was trying to play square of the wicket on the offside. That means he was waiting a little more for the ball.”

“I feel in the maiden over he played, the solid cover drive he struck, the ball hit the middle of the bat, that only gave him the confidence and after that, he understood that if he plays with the normal shape, he will score runs and we saw that today,” Irfan Pathan concluded.
