Kieron Pollard’s unbeaten 87 off 34 balls helped Mumbai Indians beat Chennai Super Kings in a high-scoring thriller in Delhi. Despite the loss however, CSK maintain their position at the top of the points table. Mumbai Indians too get are placed at number four with the team getting to eight points from seven games now. Set to chase 219, Kieron Pollard scored his first half-century of this year’s IPL as his knock helped Mumbai Indians win their fourth game of the season. His finishing skills came on the back of a good opening stand by skipper Rohit Sharma (35) and Quinto De Kock (38). They added 71 for the first wicket inside eight overs. Mumbai then lost three quick wickets but with Pollard at the other end, the intent to win the game was always there.

Contributions from Krunal Pandya (32 off 23) and Hardik Pandya (16 off 7) proved crucial along the way with Pollard’s knock. On a placid Delhi wicket, Mumbai Indians batters hit as many as 14 sixes during the course of their chase. Lungi Ngidi and Shardul Thakur went for 62 and 56 respectively off their spell. Sam Curran’s 3/34 came second to Pollard powerful knock as Mumbai Indians beat CSK in this rivalry.

Earlier in the game, the CSK batters themselves hit as many as 16 sixes together to get to a score of 218/3. Faf Du Plessis (50) and Moeen Ali (58) added a stand of 108 runs in the middle phase of the innings as Ambati Rayudu‘s cameo of 27 ball 72 got them to the score which looked enough at the halfway mark.

Jasprit Bumrah bowled his most expensive spell in IPL tonight as he went for 56 off his four overs. Trent Boult went for 42 while Dhawal Kulkarni went for 48. Rahul Chahar went for 32 off his spell but remained wicketless.

On a placid Delhi wicket, bowlers from both teams went the journey but Pollard’s knock was a bit too much for the CSK bowlers to resist.

Both sides have two more games left in Delhi before they moved ahead in their IPL 2021 campaign for the final leg of the league stage. Out of the 56 league matches, Chennai, Mumbai, Kolkata & Bengaluru will host 10 matches each while Ahmedabad and Delhi will host 8 matches each.
