Needing 31 to win off the final four overs, the Mumbai Indians pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult restricted the KKR big hitters Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik from tracking the score down with some immaculate bowling. KKR needed 19 off the final two overs with Bumrah and Boult bowling none over each and going for just nine together.
None of the two KKR finishers were able to hit the big shots. Rahul Chahar bowled a spell of 4 for 27 and took the initial KKR wickets, Krunal Pandya too bowled miserly in the middle overs. He finished with figures of 1 for 13 off his four.
Earlier in the game, Andre Russell took his maiden fifer to restrict Mumbai to 152. He took those five wickets bowing the two of the final three overs of the Mumbai innings.
Suryakumar Yadav scored an impressive 56 and added 76 with Rohit Sharma (43) for the second wicket. KKR bowlers also bowled in tight channels and picked wickets at regular intervals. Mumbai Indians big hitters Keiron Pollard (5) and Hardik Pandya (15) failed with the bat. It was Krunal Pandya’s 15 off 9 that helped Mumbai post a score over 150 which was just enough at the end as it turned out.
Raul Chahar for his matchwinning spell of 4/27 was awarded the Man of the Match. KKR face RCB next Sunday while Mumbai Indians take on Sunrisers Hyderabad next Saturday.
