Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag has backed Ravichandran Ashwin over his fallout with Eoin Morgan in the KKR vs Delhi Capital clash. KKR eon the game but not before the two cricketers had a go at each other at the center of the pitch. An argument broke out in the match involving the two players after Ashwin tried to steal a single, as the ball hit DC captain Rishabh Pant and went close to the 30- yard circle. Morgan felt that Ashwin trying to steal the single was against the spirit of the game and thus took a stand for the team’s cause.

Shane Warne were among the ex-cricketers who criticised Ravichandran Ashwin for having a go at Morgan. Meanwhile, in a series of tweets, Ashwin clarified that he did whatever he thought was right and within the confines of the game. He was also backed by Virender Sehwag in the process.

KKR wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik, in the post-match press conference following KKR’s win revealed that Morgan did not appreciate Ashwin trying to steal a single, sparking once again the ‘spirit of cricket’ debate.

Kiwi all-rounder also responded to the controversy saying that he supports Eoin Morgan in this case. Now if his answer was deliberate is debatable.

In his response, Neesham said: “Because they’re runs if the ball crosses the boundary. But the etiquette of the game is that you don’t run if you’ve caused the deflection. It’s just one of those unspoken spirit of the game things.”

In a series of tweets, Ashwin clarified his stance on the entire matter and said that he in no way has done anything that goes against the laws of cricket.

“In Morgan or Southee’s world of cricket they can choose and stick to what they believe is right or wrong but do not have the right to take a moral high ground and use words that are derogatory,” Ashwin wrote in one of his tweets.
