Venkatesh Iyer’s heroics did not help KKR win a must-win game against Punjab Kings in Dubai on Friday night. He failed to defend five off the final over as Punjab escaped a narrow defeat. In the process, they get to 10 points and stay alive in the race for the playoffs. It was ironic at last as Shahrukh Khan hit the winning runs helping Priety Zinta’s team earn a nail-biting win.
KKR’s chances of qualifying for the playoffs get even slimmer after this defeat and they bank on a lot of their results to go their way. Meanwhile, Venkatesth Iyer almost pulled off an incredible catch in the 17th over bowled by Shivam Mavi.

Shahrukh pulled a ball flat to deep backward leg. The ball found Iyer on its way who took the catch and then tried to keep the ball in play but fell on the ropes trying to take the catch on the second attempt.
With five runs required off the last over, KL Rahul was dismissed for 67 after he was ruled not out off a catch from Rahul Tripathi in the 19th over.
Despite the win, Punjab Kings are still placed fifth in the points table and KKR are placed on fourth courtesy of a better run rate. WHile KKR play Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad next, Punjab Kings have an even tougher Test playing RCB and CSK in their final two games. CSK as of now is the only team to have qualified for the playoffs.
“It was really important that a set batsman was there when I went in so that I could take it on from the first ball itself. I thought I hit the last ball really well and I thought it would go deep. But I was glad I took the chance. As soon as go into a situation such as this, I look to pick the gaps and I’ll look to carry this on. We need three wins on the trot, and we have started off well today. It’s important we stick to the process and not think too far ahead” said Shahrukh Khan after hitting the winning runs for Punjab Kings.
