The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings have been dealt with a major blow. All-rounder Deepak Chahar is all set to miss the majority of the Indian Premier League 2022 season.
Deepak Chahar suffered a quadriceps tear in the third T20I against West Indies last month. He was ruled out from the India vs Sri Lanka T20 series. As reported by Espncricinfo, Chahar will take several weeks to heal, and in the process will miss most of the Indian Premier League 2022 matches. The all-rounder was brought by the Chennai Super Kings franchise for a whopping, 14 crores in the IPL auctions.
Deepak Chahar’s absence will significantly impact the Chennai Super Kings camp, as he has been an integral part of the franchise for the last few seasons. Let’s take a look at the possible options, who may replace Deepak in the CSK playing XI.
#3 Rajvardhan Hangargekar
Emerging cricketer, Rajvardhan Hangargekar was an integral member of the Indian team in their successful U19 World Cup 2022 campaign. He was roped in by the Chennai Super Kings for 1.5 crores, after his brilliant performance in the world cup. Hangargekar impressed everyone with his all-round talent. He bowls at a pace of 140kmph and is a very handy lower-order batter.
Rajvardhan showcased his hitting abilities when he struck three consecutive sizes against Ireland in the world cup. The U19 sensation could prove to be an asset for the CSK franchise.
#2 Simarjeet Singh
Simarjeet Singh was signed by the Chennai Super Kings for his base price of 20 lakhs in the IPL auctions. The Delhi pacer was part of the Indian team that toured Sri Lanka last year as a reserve. However, he was included in the squad, after a covid-19 outbreak in the Indian camp.
Simarjeet was also picked by the Mumbai Indians last year as a replacement for Arjun Tendulkar. The right-arm pacer has been on the radar of a few IPL teams lately. He had a brilliant Vijay Hazare Trophy 2020-21 season, where he picked 11 wickets, at an economy rate of 5.65.
#1 Tushar Deshpande
Tushar Deshpande is not new to the Chennai Super Kings setup. The Mumbai pacer was part of the camp as a net bowler in the 2021 IPL season. Tushar can consistently bowl at the pace of 140kmph. He impressed everyone on his IPL debut for the Delhi Capitals in 2020.
The pacer conceded just eight runs, defending 22 in the final over, against the Rajasthan Royals, and also took the prized scalp of Ben Stokes. He was the second-highest wicket-taker for Mumbai in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021, with eight wickets in four matches, at an economy rate of 7.
