The IPL 2022 is all set to be including 2 new teams Ahmedabad and Lucknow making it a 10-team tournament. Ahmedabad and Lucknow join the other eight established cities in the league to make it a 10-team tournament from the IPL 2022 season for the very first time. The Sanjeev Goenka Group have picked Lucknow as their home base for INR 7090 crores, while owners of CVC Capitals have bagged Ahmedabad for INR 5166 crores.
Besides, the Board of Cricket Control of Indian (BCCI) have announced the retention rules ahead of IPL 2022. As per the new rules for the IPL 2022, old teams can retain four players ahead of the 2022 auction. After the list of retained players is finalised, the two new franchises will get the first choice from the rest of the teams ahead of the auction where they can pick up a maximum of 3 players.
However, there are two different forms of retaining the players. Either team can keep two Indian and two overseas players or three Indians and one overseas player. On that note, let us take a look at 4 players PKBS can Retain ahead of IPL 2022 auction:
#1. Mayank Agarwal (India)
Mayank Agarwal has been exceptional at the top alongside skipper KL Rahul for the Punjab Kings. The Karnataka batsman has been one of the batting pillars for the PKBS over the years. He has scored 441 runs in 12 matches at an average of 40.09.
He has been very consistent this year scoring back to back half-centuries with powerful cricketing strokes.
#2. KL Rahul (India)
KL Rahul has been the leading run-scorer for the Punjab Kings for the last 3 consecutive years in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In 13 matches he has scored 626 runs at an excellent average of 62.20. Coming to his captaincy, he’s been spot on with his field placing and bowling changes.
KL Rahul is an experienced batsman playing at the International level regularly. He’s worthy of retaining for the PKBS and will be a key batsman for the success of the Punja Kings in the coming years.
#3. Mohammad Shami (India)
Mohammad Shami’s performance in the latest edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was absolutely incredible. He was excellent in the powerplay and in the death overs as well.
His international experience will be very helpful for the team and Shami will be a role model for the young bowlers in the team.
#4. Dawid Malan (England)
One of the best T20 players in the world at the moment, Dawid Malan can be very useful for the PKBS in the IPL 2022 and in the near future as well. His T20 rankings at the moment is just at the top (1).
This explosive batsman didn’t have much game time in the IPL 2021 but he will be crucial for the Punjab Kings at the top of the order in the upcoming edition of the IPL.
