It was an action-packed day on Saturday (February 12) in Bengaluru for the IPL 2022 mega auctions with teams spending money on players to acquire their services. A total of 74 players were sold on the first day for INR 3,88,10,000 including 20 overseas cricketers.
Mumbai Indians (MI) spent INR 15.25 crores for young wicket-keeper batsman Ishan Kishan making him the most expensive cricketer in the auction. Deepak Chahar was the second most expensive player sold at this auction with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) splurging INR 14 crores for the all-rounder.
Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga and West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran were the joint-most expensive foreign buys of the IPL 2022 mega auction on day one. Royal Challengers Bangalore spent INR 10.75 crores for Hasaranga, while Sunrisers Hyderabad spent the same amount for Nicholas Pooran.
Some of the big names, including Suresh Raina and Steve Smith, went unsold in the IPL 2022 auction. However, they can come back in the auction if any franchises show interest in them.
